Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Facilities Management Services is seeking a Steamfitter in Pittsburgh to install, repair, and maintain steam, condensate, and hot water systems across the campus. You will interpret blueprints, perform welding, and ensure all joints are leak-free while complying with safety regulations.

The ideal candidate has a journeyman steamfitter background with 3+ years in a large institutional setting, and must pass background checks and health requirements for respirator use.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduation from a trade school or apprenticeship program as a journeyman steamfitter required.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman or sub-journeyman level steam/pipe fitter in a large institution setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, repair and maintain low-, medium-, and high-pressure steam and condensate systems.
• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on piping systems.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings and specs to plan piping layouts.
• Perform electric/gas welding on pipe and mild steel and silver soldering.
• Route and connect piping to equipment ensuring leak-free joints and proper pressure.
• Requisition parts, materials, and ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
