Job summary

Nebraska Public Power District has an immediate opening for a Station Operator Intern - GGS located at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, Nebraska. The internship runs from mid-May to mid-August 2026, with a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule and supervision by a Shift Supervisor.

The incumbent will learn from experienced operators, attend turnover meetings, complete basic coal-fired plant operations training, perform rounds, and observe control room operations and lockout/tagout reviews.

Qualifications

• Must have completed first year (two semesters) of college in Energy Generation Operations or similar field.
• Position requires observation of control room operations and participation in shift turnover meetings.
• Background check, physical, and drug screen required before starting.

Responsibilities

• Learn from experienced station operators and mentor under supervision.
• Attend shift turnover meetings and perform basic coal-fired plant operations training.
• Perform rounds with a Station Operator and observe lockout/tagout reviews and control room operations.
• Report wearing safety shoes meeting ASTM F2413-05 specifications.
