Job summary

Tenet Healthcare is seeking a Lab Assistant for the STAT Lab in Detroit, MI. The role involves prioritizing and processing patient specimens, obtaining blood samples as ordered, labeling and processing specimens, and ensuring specimen integrity per OSHA guidelines.

The position requires a high school diploma and may require six months of medical training or related certifications. Phlebotomy certification is preferred and the facility emphasizes safety and quality in its processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education required.
• Six months experience in medical training, and/or certification in a health care environment or related science field.
• Basic studies in medical terminology or a related health science field preferred.
• Customer service experience in a service environment preferred.
• Phlebotomy Certification is preferred for Phlebotomists.

Responsibilities

• Prioritizes incoming specimens and processes patient specimens per safety/OSHA guidelines.
• May draw blood samples from patients per physician order and safety guidelines.
• Generates and labels specimens; may process and aliquot per test requirements.
• Ensures specimen integrity and proper submission for tests; handles specimen routing.
