Job summary

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Compute Systems Software in Mountain View, CA. You will own embedded Linux platform components, from kernel config and BSP integration to drivers and boot paths, building Yocto-based distributions for multiple vehicle programs.

You will lead debugging, performance optimization, and cross-team collaboration with Android Automotive OS, safety, validation, and silicon vendors, while mentoring engineers and improving platform reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Own kernel config, BSP integration, device drivers, boot and recovery for embedded compute platforms.
• Build and maintain Yocto-based distributions and production images for multiple vehicle programs.
• Harden boot, recovery, watchdog, and healthMonitoring for robustness.
• Lead complex debugging across hardware, kernel, drivers, and user space.
• Automate diagnostics and improve pipeline health with CI/CD tooling and scripting.
• Collaborate with silicon vendors to bring up new SoCs and ensure upstream/downstream quality.
• Provide architecture reviews, code reviews, and mentorship across teams.
