Job summary

Toasttab is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Voice AI Team. You will own end-to-end projects, designing scalable backend services and core platform components that power a company-wide voice platform.

You will collaborate with product, engineering, and stakeholders to turn ambiguous problems into reliable systems. With 8+ years of OO language experience (Java/Kotlin) and a track record in AI-integrated products, you will shape architecture, guide cross-team initiatives, and mentor

Qualifications

8+ years of experience with object-oriented languages such as Java or Kotlin.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Experience developing AI-integrated products or features with LLMs or AI capabilities.
Experience building and reasoning about AI-powered systems, including observability and cost management.
Experience shipping complex, production services and leading multi-team projects.
Strong cross-team collaboration and ability to influence direction.

Responsibilities

Design, build, deploy, and maintain backend services and core platform components for the Voice AI platform.
Lead complex, cross-cutting projects from design to production with stakeholder alignment.
Shape technical direction, patterns, and architecture to reduce complexity across teams.
Integrate with AI platforms and internal company systems, balancing speed, reliability and scalability.
Establish observability, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks for AI-powered systems.
