Job summary

Slang is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to strengthen our backend systems across telephony infrastructure, real-time voice AI, and restaurant-focused applications. The role emphasizes 90% backend work with Kotlin, while occasional frontend tasks in React/TypeScript may be required.

You will own features end-to-end, mentor teammates, and help shape technical direction in a remote/hybrid environment. Strong OO skills and API design are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in backend systems.
• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented language (e.g., Java/Kotlin/C#/Python/TypeScript).
• Experience building RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases and data modeling concepts.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
• Strong software testing practices and test-driven development.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote/hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services with a focus on reliability and testing.
• Own features end to end and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Develop and maintain GraphQL and REST APIs for internal and external clients.
• Integrate with telephony and AI stacks (Twilio/Telnyx, speech-to-text, TTS/LLM).
• Collaborate across product, design, and engineering, and mentor junior engineers.
• Lead code reviews and contribute to platform-wide standards.
