Oportun is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and drive high-impact projects across our engineering stack. You will work across product, platform, and infrastructure domains, delivering scalable software solutions and fostering a culture of excellence.

This role emphasizes leadership, code quality, and collaboration with product managers and designers to translate business needs into robust technology.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a minimum 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or a Master's degree with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven track record of delivering sophisticated software solutions in a leadership capacity with high quality.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Java, Python, C++, or similar.
• Mastery over data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS or Azure, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of complex software applications, ensuring high quality and adherence to best practices.
• Create frameworks and abstractions to reduce workload for other engineers; improve test coverage.
• Drive architectural decisions and mentor senior engineers across multiple teams.
• Provide project leadership and ensure successful delivery through effective communication.
• Act as technical thought leader and advocate for efficient processes across teams.
