Job summary

DoorDash is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to own the storage abstraction platform. You will lead reliability, performance, and correctness at scale, shaping architecture and routing, while mentoring engineers and guiding adoption across teams.

You’ll work in a hybrid model from the New York, Bay Area, or Seattle regions, focusing on low-latency KV stores, streaming, and data-plane optimization to support DoorDash’s rapid growth.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building large-scale distributed systems with Tier 0 storage focus.
• Experience with data-access gateways or storage abstraction layers.
• Hands-on with large-scale distributed data stores (e.g., DynamoDB, RocksDB, ZippyDB).
• Expertise in low-latency, high-throughput systems and tail-latency optimization.
• Strong Go experience in production distributed systems.
• Knowledge of MVCC, GC/compaction, replication, CDC.
• Proven ownership of on-call leadership and incident response at scale.
• Staff-level technical leadership and cross-team architectural influence.
• Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure plus observability.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools in the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Own reliability, performance, and correctness of the storage abstraction platform at scale.
• Set technical direction for storage surface, provider model, caching, and routing.
• Deep work in data plane areas: proxy, KV, CDC, routing to meet Tier 0 goals.
• Shape client surface: providers, code generation, SDKs for polyglot clients.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence roadmaps beyond immediate scope.
• Drive end-to-end platform lifecycle from onboarding to adoption.
• Design systems for 100x growth, remove single points of failure via automation.
