Job summary

IBM Software in the United States is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Secure Compute Platform who will lead the design of a multi-tenant, cloud-native compute substrate. You will implement platform APIs and Kubernetes controllers in Go, drive architecture across teams, mentor engineers, and own operational excellence for mission-critical workloads.

This role offers a hands-on opportunity to influence security, scalability, and reliability across AWS, Azure, and GCP, while collaborating

Qualifications

• 10 years of experience delivering backend/infrastructure software in production.
• Proven track record leading delivery of large-scale, highly available systems.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise: controllers, operators, multi-region multi-cluster.
• Strong Go proficiency with production-grade services and control planes.
• Experience with multi-tenant architectures, security/isolation patterns, and secure runtimes.
• Familiarity with gRPC, Protobuf, and internal API design.
• Observability and operational practices: metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, incident response.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure and cloud-provider integrations.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-team mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction for Secure Compute, including architecture, runtime, and security.
• Design platform APIs and Kubernetes controllers for workload lifecycle and isolation.
• Collaborate with product and platform teams to shape the roadmap and features.
• Deliver initiatives in scheduling, failure handling, networking patterns, rollout strategies.
• Lead design reviews and guide architecture across teams for safe adoptable primitives.
• Mentor engineers, provide design guidance, code reviews, and best practices.
• Own operational excellence: availability, reliability, SLOs, on-call, incident response.
