GitHub, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Compute Platform to steer the Kubernetes-based platform that underpins production workloads.

You will design, implement, and operate systems to scale safely, automate processes, and reduce toil across a distributed fleet. You will collaborate with platform teams, service owners, and infrastructure engineers to set long-term direction, improve reliability, and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software engineering with production systems experience.
• 2+ years operating large Kubernetes fleets and platform work.
• Degree options listed include CS/related fields or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate Kubernetes-based platform systems for GitHub production services.
• Improve reliability, scalability, and operability of the Kubernetes fleet.
• Lead cross-team platform work including migrations, capacity, and guardrails.
• Collaborate with service owners and engineers on safe migration paths and standards.
• Debug production issues across Kubernetes, cloud infra, Linux, networking, and observability.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards through reviews and direction.
• Write and maintain reliable platform software; Go experience helpful but not mandatory.
• Participate in on-call and incident response with continuous follow-up tasks.
