Job summary

GitHub, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Compute Platform to shape the direction of a Kubernetes-based platform used by hundreds of internal teams.

You will design and implement scaleable systems, focus on reliability, automation, and reducing toil, and work with a distributed, remote-friendly team. You should bring strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on Kubernetes experience, and excellent written communication to collaborate across service owners and infrastructure

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software engineering experience with production software in multiple languages.
• 2+ years operating large-scale Kubernetes fleets and platform systems.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms, and platform engineering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate Kubernetes-based platform systems for GitHub production services.
• Improve reliability, scalability, and operability across the Hubbernetes fleet.
• Lead cross-team platform initiatives including AKS migration and capacity management.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and incident response.
• Write, review, and maintain reliable platform software with emphasis on automation.
• Participate in on-call and incident response, driving follow-ups to prevent repeats.
