Keeper Security, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Rapid Innovation team. This 100% remote role offers a path to hybrid schedules for candidates in the Chicago, IL or El Dorado Hills, CA areas.

The engineer will lead hands-on development across multiple software domains, shape architecture, and mentor peers while turning ambitious ideas into working software. Responsibilities include building backend services and APIs in Java, evaluating new tech, and integrating AI capabilities.

Qualifications

9+ years of professional software engineering experience across multiple areas of software development
Experience designing and leading architecture for complex software projects
Proven ability to take ambiguous ideas from concept to functional implementation
Strong backend development experience, preferably Java and modern service-oriented architectures
Experience designing APIs, backend services, databases and third-party integrations
Ability to learn new languages/frameworks quickly and adapt to unfamiliar systems
Ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers without formal authority
Experience using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software engineering

Responsibilities

Rapidly design and build working software for new product concepts and strategic initiatives
Take loosely defined ideas from concept through functional implementation
Define architecture and technical direction for early-stage projects
Work across backend, frontend, desktop, platform and infrastructure technologies
Develop backend services and APIs using Java and related technologies
Evaluate unfamiliar technologies and codebases to become productive quickly
Integrate AI models and AI capabilities into software
Mentor engineers and raise technical standards through reviews and guidance
Collaborate with CTO, engineering leaders and product teams
Provide clear handoff documentation to long-term owners
Utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate research, coding, and debugging
