Job summary

JD IT Financial in Johnston, IA seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead revolver credit and merchant experience platforms. You will drive end-to-end architecture for backend systems in Java and Node.js, and shape customer-facing apps using React and Next.js.

You will own cloud architecture on AWS, enforce security/compliance standards, and collaborate with risk, product, and design leaders to deliver scalable, reliable financial software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Java backend development with Spring Boot and REST APIs.
• 5+ years experience in Node.js/TypeScript for distributed services.
• Proven ownership of large-scale, highly available backend systems.
• Strong AWS cloud architecture knowledge including ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway.
• Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ, caching, and external service dependencies.
• Front-end experience with Next.js/React for enterprise applications.
• Relational and NoSQL database design and optimization.
• Ability to drive architecture decisions and lead cross-team reviews.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive end-to-end technical architecture for revolving credit and merchant platforms.
• Lead design and evolution of core backend systems with Java and Node.js.
• Set architectural direction for customer-facing React/Next.js apps.
• Evaluate architectural options, identify risks, and provide clear technical direction.
• Own AWS cloud architecture and operational strategy with emphasis on reliability and cost.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Risk, and Compliance to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Define security and compliance standards, including PCI considerations.
• Drive platform consistency through shared services and API standards.
• Promote production readiness with monitoring, incident response, and DR planning.
