Job summary

Slate is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical design of key systems across our digital platform. You will architect major systems, code and test components, and drive reviews to shape the customer experience for our direct-to-consumer EV brand.

You’ll thrive in ambiguous environments, solve complex problems, and mentor engineers while aligning across UX, product, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-performance software in a fast-paced startup setting.

Qualifications

10+ years of professional software development experience with customer-facing systems.
Experience designing architecture and driving engineering decisions across teams.
Experience building reliable, scalable distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
Proven ability to work through ambiguity and deliver high-quality solutions in fast-paced environments.
Experience integrating third-party platforms and SaaS via APIs, events, and webhooks.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of major systems spanning multiple teams.
Code and test system components; lead code and design reviews and bring designs to technical committee review.
Own code quality, system tests, and interface integration.
Simplify complex problems and address ambiguous challenges with sound judgment.
Collaborate with UX and product teams to build customer-first solutions.
Serve as a technical authority and mentor engineers to raise the technical bar.
