Slate is building a direct-to-consumer EV platform in the USA. We seek a Staff Software Engineer to lead design of core systems, guiding architecture across teams and shaping the customer experience.

You will own major components, drive technical decisions, and mentor engineers to elevate technical excellence. You will collaborate with UX and product teams to craft scalable, reliable systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure while navigating ambiguity to deliver high-quality, customer-centric

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience building and operating SaaS/web-scale systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across teams and architecture decisions.
• Experience with distributed systems, web services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality solutions quickly.
• Experience integrating third-party platforms via APIs, events, and webhooks.
• Experience in ecommerce or marketplace tech is a plus.
• Experience optimizing frontend performance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of major systems spanning multiple teams.
• Code and test components; lead reviews and drive designs to technical committee.
• Own code quality, system tests, and integration for built interfaces.
• Simplify complex problems with sound judgment and creativity.
• Collaborate with UX and product to build customer-first solutions.
• Serve as a technical authority and advise on trade-offs across groups.
• Shape company technical objectives and align groups on direction.
• Mentor engineers to raise the technical bar and guide teams.
