Job summary

Block is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Issuing server engineering team to own network-centric systems across the card-issuance lifecycle, including issuance, activation, and dispute handling. You will work with major card networks, influence certification outcomes, and deliver durable tooling and production code for reliability at scale.

Qualifications

Deep expertise with at least one major card network, e.g. Visa, including connectivity, authorization and clearing flows.
Built or operated a live direct network connection, not just via a processor.
Experience landing concrete network outcomes such as rulings or certification milestones.
Hands-on software engineering experience building and operating reliable financial/payments systems.

Responsibilities

Interpret network specifications, message flows, certification and mandates, and influence requirements with networks.
Lead complex engineering problems at the network boundary across teams and domains.
Write production code and build conformance tooling for network certification.
Collaborate with network partners to translate requirements into engineering decisions.
Drive end-to-end network certification and release cycles.
