Job summary

Netspend seeks a hands-on Staff Software Engineer to own its core card authorization platform. You will lead a team of engineers, architect high-throughput Java microservices, and ensure PCI DSS compliance while integrating with major card networks using ISO 8583.

You will drive platform modernization, security, and production reliability, coordinating with product, security, and operations teams across a global payment network.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading teams or driving architecture.
• Expert-level Java (11/17+) and deep knowledge of concurrency, JVM internals, and memory analysis.
• Strong Spring Boot/Spring Cloud experience for microservices (Config, OpenFeign, Actuator, Security).
• Experience with distributed transactions (2PC/XA, Saga, outbox) and idempotent processing.
• Deep Oracle RDBMS skills and SQL tuning; JDBC transactions.
• Experience with Kafka or JMS in event-driven architectures.
• Proficiency in building resilient, low-latency, high-throughput systems with resilience patterns.
• CI/CD pipelines, code quality tools, and test automation experience.
• Excellent communication for cross-functional leadership and stakeholder collaboration.
• Payments/ISO 8583 domain knowledge including EMV/KMS & HSM integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers (5–8).
• Set coding standards and conduct architectural reviews and code reviews.
• Own production health, platform upgrades, and network certifications.
• Design and maintain high-throughput Java microservices for authorizations and transactions.
• Manage TCP connections to card networks and ensure robust failover handling.
• Architect distributed transaction boundaries across Oracle, Kafka/JMS, and services.
• Drive platform modernization, security, and PCI DSS compliance.
• Lead incident response, RCA, and remediation; coordinate with product and operations.
