Job summary

Block, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Financial Platform - Issuing team. This remote Bay Area role focuses on the card issuing platform underpinning Cash App Card, Square Card, and new programs.

You will lead deep network-focused work, build and debug at the protocol level, and collaborate with networks to meet requirements. You will work hands-on on production systems, influence network certification, and drive durable engineering leverage.

Qualifications

Expert on at least one major card network (Visa) with ISO 8583 and authorization flows.
Experience building and operating reliable payments systems at scale.
Ability to influence technical direction beyond own area.
Experience working with networks to land certifications, rulings, or exceptions.

Responsibilities

Be a deep technical expert on global card networks and network specifications.
Lead complex engineering problems at the network boundary across teams.
Partner with technical leads and stakeholders to shape solutions at the network/Issuing platform edge.
Write production code and build conformance tooling for network integration.
Drive network certification and mandatory release cycles end to end.
Establish frameworks, standards, tooling, and practices for durable network expertise.
Mentor engineers, perform reviews, and provide technical guidance.
Apply AI-powered tools to improve velocity and quality across the lifecycle.
