Job summary

Intuit's Traffic Team seeks a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership over the platform that powers North-South traffic through the API Gateway and East-West service mesh. You will help shape the MCP Gateway authentication and guide the next wave of platform improvements with a focus on reliability and security.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Envoy and/or Istio, or modern service mesh architectures.
• Strong systems programming in Go and/or Java, with cross-language experience.
• Experience designing authentication/authorization for high-throughput traffic (OAuth, mTLS).
• Proven incident response and root-cause analysis for P1-level issues.
• Experience with AWS networking and scale considerations.
• Ability to influence via design reviews without direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Set architecture and engineering direction for API Gateway and service mesh.
• Drive MCP Gateway design, authentication flows, and performance readiness.
• Lead AI-agent-enabled traffic operations and automated analysis work.
• Own major migrations end-to-end with backward compatibility.
• Advance resiliency through FMEA, Game Days, and load shedding.
• Act as technical escalation during high-severity incidents.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineers and managers to align strategy.
• Mentor staff-track engineers and raise technical standards.
• Contribute to FY roadmap planning with scoped delivery.
