Job summary

Intuit's Traffic Team leads the API Gateway and Service Mesh that power our digital ecosystem. We seek a Staff Engineer to shape the platform roadmap and set architecture across API Gateway, mesh, and MCP Gateway, balancing deep internals with long‑term planning.

You will champion authentication and routing for AI agents, drive migrations end-to-end, and mentor staff‑level engineers. This role requires hands-on Go/Java systems work, experience with Envoy/Istio, and a track record of incident

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale, low-latency distributed systems.
• Hands-on expertise with Envoy and/or Istio or modern API gateway architectures.
• Strong systems-level programming in Go and/or Java, with cross-language experience.
• Experience designing authentication/authorization for high-throughput traffic (OAuth, mTLS, token exchange).
• Incident response and root-cause analysis experience for P1-level issues.
• AWS networking and infrastructure experience at scale (VPC, NAT/TGW, load balancing).
• Ability to influence architecture and designs without direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Set architecture and engineering direction across API Gateway and Service Mesh.
• Design and harden the MCP Gateway, including auth flows for AI agents.
• Lead AI-agent-enabled traffic operations and automated analyses.
• Own major migrations end-to-end with backward compatibility considerations.
• Apply resiliency practices to reduce P1/P2 incidents.
• Act as escalation point during high-severity incidents and drive durable fixes.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineers and managers to align strategy.
• Mentor senior and staff-track engineers through reviews and pairing.
• Contribute to FY roadmap planning with technical input.
