Job summary

ApartmentIQ is hiring a staff-level engineer to own the rent pricing pipeline end-to-end. You will manage data from property management systems, run demand and renewal models, and surface pricing recommendations that feed into daily decisions.

You’ll work across Python, Terraform, and Ruby, building the infrastructure, orchestration layer, and observability to ensure data quality and reliable pricing outputs for customers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating production systems with real ownership.
• Strong Python in a serverless or service context—AWS Lambda, container images, dependency and runtime management, multi-stage job orchestration.
• Terraform in production data stores including IAM, encryption, networking, and alarms.
• Fluent in analytical SQL and data modeling; built multi-stage warehouse pipelines (Redshift) and reconciled messy source data.
• Ruby on Rails: own changes across a large Rails codebase.
• Cloud Native: deep AWS across Lambda, S3, SQS, Kinesis, EventBridge, DynamoDB, Aurora/RDS, Redshift, IAM.
• ML in Production: versioning, dependency drift, feature plumbing, explainability.
• Adaptable & Autonomous: thrive in a fast-paced growth environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the data processing pipeline that produces rent pricing recommendations.
• Tackle a hard data integration problem from multiple property management systems.
• Build infrastructure as code for databases, queues, and scheduling.
• Develop the end-to-end orchestration layer for ingestion, inference, and daily jobs.
• Implement observability, monitoring, and data freshness checks.
• Work across the stack with Python, Terraform, and Ruby as primary tools.
• Help shape AI-assisted engineering practices and ensure code quality.
