Job summary

Ripple in the United States is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the architecture of the compliance control plane—an end-to-end, vendor-agnostic system that lets payments move in real time while meeting regulatory obligations.

You will set technical strategy across Ripple's product lines, raise the bar for reliability, and mentor engineers while shaping platform direction for future jurisdictions and surfaces.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of production backend experience with scalable systems.
• Own architecture for complex distributed systems at scale.
• Ability to lead technical direction across teams beyond your scope.
• Strong resilience, fault-tolerance and real-time decisioning instincts.
• Excellent API design judgment (REST/gRPC).
• Navigate ambiguity in regulated environments and translate to durable plans.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, observability tools, and AWS.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar of a team.
• Experience in fintech/payments or compliance tech is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set architectural direction for the compliance control plane across product lines.
• Drive hard technical problems end-to-end: multi-vendor failover and sub-second decisioning.
• Translate regulatory obligations into durable engineering primitives and roadmaps.
• Anticipate platform risks and scalability constraints and lead mitigations.
• Partner with senior leaders to align objectives with engineering reality.
• Set production ownership standards: observability, alerts, and incident response.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and raise design quality.
