Job summary

Ripple is hiring a senior engineer to own the compliance control plane architecture, coordinating real-time screening and resilience across vendor integrations. You will shape how regulatory obligations become engineering practice, guiding multiple teams and executives.

You will lead with a pragmatic, code-centered approach, mentoring engineers and setting standards for observability, fault tolerance, and scalable design in a fast-moving fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building production backend systems in Java (or comparable JVM languages, Go, Rust).
• Track record of owning architecture for complex distributed systems at scale across multiple teams or organizations.
• Ability to set technical direction at the organizational level and drive adoption of standards across team boundaries.
• Experience in fintech, payments, identity, or compliance tech is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-year architectural vision for the compliance control plane: real-time screening orchestration, resilience and observability layer, vendor-agnostic integration, and the decision and data plane, sequenced against three years ahead.
• Drive the hardest, highest-ambiguity technical problems end to end: multi-vendor failover, sub-second decisioning under load, regulator-grade auditability, resilience across partial dependency failures.
• Set technical direction beyond FinCrimes: define integration contracts, resilience patterns, and compliance primitives for partner engineering teams.
• Translate evolving regulatory obligations and goals into durable engineering primitives and a sequenced roadmap.
• Anticipate platform risks and scaling constraints years before they become incidents, and lead remediation initiatives.
• Partner with executive leadership across Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and Product to shape how regulatory requirements become engineering reality.
• Set standards for production ownership: observability, alerting, incident response, and reliability.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers, elevate design quality through architecture reviews, expand the team's capabilities.
