Job summary

Scribd, Inc. is hiring for a senior backend engineer to own and evolve the Content Library and Core Infrastructure. The role focuses on Rust-based services, Python tooling, and a scalable platform that powers Scribd, Slideshare, Everand, and Fable.

You will design, build, and operate systems at scale with strong emphasis on performance, cost-efficiency, and governance. You will collaborate with ML, search, product, and data teams, drive feature development end-to-end, and mentor engineers while

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
• Production experience writing Rust and strong proficiency in Python.
• Deep understanding of storage and data fundamentals: object storage (S3), columnar formats (Parquet/Arrow), and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency services, including metrics, tracing, alerting, and debugging production systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: leading projects across team boundaries, writing design docs, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code workflows (Terraform).
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and comfort turning ambiguous requirements into shipped software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the Content Library's core Rust services at scale.
• Own features end-to-end from design to production operations.
• Evolve the Python userland and support engineers across the company.
• Lead cross-functional projects with ML, search, product, and data teams.
• Drive performance and cost-efficiency across the stack (DataFusion, Parquet, S3, PostgreSQL).
• Strengthen governance: data lineage, authorization, and deletion propagation.
• Mentor the team and improve the developer environment, including agentic AI workflows.
