Job summary

Scribd, Inc. is seeking a senior systems engineer to own the Content Library and Core Infrastructure. You will design, implement, and operate Rust services for scalable storage and data workflows, while guiding Python tooling and developer experience across teams.

You will collaborate with ML, search, product, and data groups to shape roadmaps, balance performance and cost, and enhance governance and security across the platform. A hands-on leader who mentors others will thrive here.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
• Proficiency in Rust and Python.
• Deep understanding of storage and data fundamentals: S3, Parquet/Arrow, PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Track record designing high-throughput, low-latency services including metrics, tracing, alerts, and debugging production systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: leading projects across team boundaries and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS, Aurora) and IaC workflows (Terraform).
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders; ability to turn ambiguous requirements into shipped software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the Content Library's core Rust services at scale.
• Own features end-to-end from design through testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Evolve the Python userland and support engineers across the company who build on the platform.
• Lead cross-functional projects with ML, search, product, and data teams; define roadmaps and designs.
• Drive performance and cost-efficiency across the stack; optimize data access and storage layouts.
• Strengthen governance: data lineage, access controls, and deletion propagation.
