Scribd, Inc. is seeking a senior backend engineer to design, build, and operate the Content Library and Core Infrastructure. You will own Rust services, evolve the Python tooling, and lead cross‑functional initiatives with ML, search, and data teams.

You will drive performance, cost efficiency, and governance across storage and data pipelines, while mentoring engineers and shaping the platform’s development.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Rust and Python for backend services.
• Deep understanding of storage and data fundamentals: S3, Parquet/Arrow, and PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Experience designing high‑throughput, low‑latency services and operating them.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across teams.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure‑as‑code workflows (Terraform).
• Clear communication with stakeholders and turning ambiguous requirements into shipped software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the Content Library's core Rust services at the scale of hundreds of billions of objects.
• Own features end‑to‑end from design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Evolve the Python userland and support engineers across the company through Reviews and APIs.
• Lead cross‑functional projects with ML, search, product, and data teams defining roadmaps and designs.
• Drive performance and cost‑efficiency across the stack (DataFusion, Parquet layouts, S3 patterns, caching, PostgreSQL/Aurora).
• Strengthen governance capabilities: data lineage, authorization, and deletion propagation.
• Mentor the team and improve the developer environment including agentic AI workflows.
