Job summary

Scribd, Inc. seeks an experienced systems engineer to own backend services for the Content Library and Core Infrastructure. You will design, implement, and operate Rust services at scale, while evolving the Python tooling and guiding cross-functional teams across ML, search, product, and data domains.

You will lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and optimize performance and costs with DataFusion, Parquet, and S3 workflows, all while upholding governance and security standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering in backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
• Proficiency in Rust and Python.
• Strong knowledge of object storage (S3), Parquet/Arrow, and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency services with production operations.
• Technical leadership: leading projects, mentoring engineers, design docs.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the Content Library's core Rust services at scale.
• Own features end-to-end from design to deployment and operations.
• Evolve the Python userland and support engineers across the company.
• Lead cross-functional projects with ML, search, product, and data teams.
• Drive performance and cost-efficiency across the stack (DataFusion, Parquet layouts, S3 access).
• Strengthen governance: data lineage, access controls, deletion propagation.
