Scribd, Inc. is hiring a senior backend engineer to own and evolve the Content Library and Core Infrastructure. You will design, implement, and operate Rust services at scale, while shaping the Python tooling used company‑wide.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend, distributed, or data‑intensive systems.
• Production experience writing Rust and strong proficiency in Python.
• Deep understanding of storage and data fundamentals: object storage (S3), Parquet/Arrow, and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Track record of designing and operating high‑throughput, low‑latency services including observability and incident response.
• Demonstrated technical leadership: leading projects across teams and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure‑as‑code workflows (Terraform).
• Clear communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders and ability to translate ambiguous requirements into shipped software.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the Content Library's core Rust services at scale for hundreds of billions of objects.
• Own features end‑to‑end from design to production operations including on‑call and incident response.
• Evolve the Python userland and support engineers with well‑designed APIs and guidance.
• Lead cross‑functional projects with ML, search, product, and data teams; define roadmaps and technical designs.
• Drive performance and cost efficiency across the stack, including DataFusion and Parquet layouts.
• Strengthen governance capabilities: data lineage, access controls, and deletion propagation.
