Job description

About the Role

At Ashby, we’re building an environment that is optimistic about what engineers can own and achieve. As a Product Engineer, you’ll take ownership over a large portion of one of our products and own projects end‑to‑end—wearing the hats traditionally worn by product and design.

Responsibilities
  • Research competitors and write product specifications.
  • Create wireframes and design user interfaces.
  • Build and ship features that require cross‑functional collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Develop reusable building blocks across the stack to maximize efficiency.
  • Implement complex data filters and declarative architectures that compile to SQL on the backend.
  • Automate workflows such as interview scheduling, offer signing, and other talent‑acquisition specific functionalities.
  • Work closely with customers and stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure the solution meets business needs.
Qualifications
  • Comfortable tackling any part of the technology stack, from frontend to new infrastructure.
  • Experience with projects that involve significant product and technical ambiguity.
  • Strong balance of speed and quality—able to deliver high‑quality code rapidly.
  • Self‑motivated and eager to improve skills; comfortable receiving and giving feedback.
  • Excellent collaborator and communicator with the ability to vet decisions with stakeholders.
  • Proactive problem‑solver who creates new abstractions, tools, and lint rules to simplify engineering tasks.
Engineering Culture
  • Minimal process with ownership over decisions normally made by product and design.
  • Natural collaboration and deliberate communication.
  • Investment in tools and abstractions that give us leverage.
  • Focus on building a diverse and inclusive team.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and equity, with a 10‑year exercise window for stock options.
  • Unlimited PTO and encouragement to take time off.
  • Minimum 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave.
  • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
  • $100/month education budget with manager approval for conferences or advanced learning.
  • Top‑tier health insurance for US employees and fully covered supplemental health insurance for others.
