Job summary

Scale AI is seeking a Senior/Staff Product Designer to lead end-to-end product design for Scale's Public Sector business unit. You will own the design of core workflows for planning, operations, or analytical tools, partnering with product from day one to shape ambiguous problems into deployable customer experiences.

This forward-deployed role works directly with government and defense customers at key project milestones, enabling design decisions without a manager present and driving

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of design experience across a range of settings and problem types.
• Experience owning end-to-end B2B or enterprise product experiences at a senior/staff level.
• Comfortable with high ambiguity and evolving requirements in government/enterprise engagements.
• Experience designing complex workflow UI, dashboards, or data-heavy interfaces.
• Strong client-facing presence and ability to win over senior stakeholders.
• Understanding of front-end development hand-off and collaborating with engineers.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites at key milestones.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design—from ambiguous requirements to wireframes, mockups, and prototypes—for a government/defense product experience.
• Partner with Product from the earliest stages of a project as a peer.
• Collaborate with customers during discovery, feedback, and post-launch to socialize design decisions with stakeholders.
• Design dashboards, mapping interfaces, alerting systems, and analytical reporting tools.
• Work in code with engineers to refine the shipped experience.
• Contribute design assets and interaction patterns to the broader platform.
• Help calibrate and grow the design team through portfolio reviews and interviews.
• Navigate high ambiguity and help define customer requirements.
• Influence stakeholders cross-functionally and to leadership on design direction.
