Job summary

Motive is seeking a Software Engineer in San Francisco to design and build scalable product and platform capabilities powering mission-critical customer experiences. You will own architecture through production operations and mentor other engineers while partnering with product and engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure systems.

We value strong experience across modern languages and distributed systems, plus a track record of driving technical direction and improving engineering

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production systems.
• Experience with Go, Ruby, Python, Java, Kotlin, Swift, or similar languages.
• Proven ability to design scalable distributed systems, data models, APIs, and cloud-native services.
• Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills, including early risk, bug, and bottleneck detection.
• Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship scalable services, APIs, and product features with reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Drive technical design and architecture decisions for new capabilities and improvements.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Improve engineering practices through code reviews, testing, monitoring, logging, and debugging.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to team direction by sharing knowledge and guiding practices.
