Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the multi-year vision for the IDV platform within Platform. You will define the identity trust layer used by Coinbase products, guiding a three-year consolidation toward a vendor-agnostic, self-serve system capable of billions of verifications.

You will lead cross-team strategy, design APIs and platform abstractions, and drive scalable, secure backend systems across regions and products.

Qualifications

• 8+ years backend software engineering in fintech environments.
• Proven technical leadership owning end-to-end design and delivery of complex backend systems.
• Deep distributed-systems expertise spanning scalability, reliability, API design, and high availability.
• Expert-level coding in Go with hands-on experience in gRPC/microservices, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in identity, KYC, fraud infrastructure, or payments domains.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and technical direction for Coinbase's IDV platform and verification infrastructure.
• Lead platform consolidation by migrating IDV to a single platform and retiring legacy paths.
• Design and build vendor-agnostic orchestration with real-time routing and failover.
• Scale the platform to support new products, regions, and verification modalities with self-serve configuration.
• Drive cross-team strategy and establish patterns used across the Identity org.
