Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the multi-year technical vision for the Identity IDV platform within Platform.

You will shape the decision engine, vendor orchestration, and verification infrastructure powering global scale across Retail, Prime, and Institutional lines. The role leads platform consolidation, designs vendor-agnostic orchestration with real-time routing, and enables self-serve configuration for future products and regions, influencing at Staff level

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering in regulated or fintech environments.
• Proven experience owning end-to-end design and delivery of complex, cross-team backend systems.
• Deep distributed-systems expertise: scalability, reliability, API design, high availability.
• Expert-level coding in Go (or equivalent) with hands-on experience in gRPC, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in identity, KYC, fraud infra, vendor orchestration, or payments domains.
• Responsible use of generative AI with governance and human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and direction for Coinbase's IDV platform—the decision engine, vendor orchestration layer, and verification infrastructure.
• Lead platform consolidation by migrating IDV onto a single decision-engine-driven platform and retire legacy paths.
• Design vendor-agnostic orchestration with real-time routing and failover that selects the optimal vendor per request.
• Scale the platform to support new products, regions, and verification modalities with self-serve configuration.
• Drive cross-team technical strategy and set platform abstractions and APIs used across the Identity org.
