Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the multi-year technical vision for the identity verification platform within Platform.

You will steer end-to-end design, architecture, and production rollout for a platform handling ~700K verifications per month across Retail, Prime, and Institutional lines. You will consolidate IDV onto a single platform, design vendor-agnostic orchestration, and enable self-serve configuration for rapid integration by Coinbase teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience in regulated/fintech environments.
• Proven technical leadership owning end-to-end design and delivery of complex backend systems.
• Deep distributed-systems expertise for scalability, reliability, and high availability.
• Expert-level Go coding with hands-on experience in gRPC/microservices, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in identity, KYC, fraud infrastructure, or payments domains with actionable roadmaps.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and technical direction for Coinbase's IDV platform and verification infrastructure.
• Lead platform consolidation by migrating IDV onto a single, vendor-agnostic platform and retire legacy paths.
• Design and build vendor-agnostic orchestration with real-time routing and failover to balance fraud prevention and user access.
• Scale the platform to support new products, regions, and verification modalities with self-serve configuration.
• Drive cross-team technical strategy and define platform patterns used across the Identity org.
