Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the multi-year technical vision for the identity verification platform within Platform. You will define the IDV trust layer and lead a three-year arc from consolidation to self-serve scalability for a billion users.

Responsibilities include end-to-end architecture, vendor orchestration, and building a scalable, vendor-agnostic platform across regions and modalities. Collaboration across pods is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering in regulated or fintech environments.
• Proven leadership owning end-to-end design and delivery of complex backend systems.
• Deep distributed-systems expertise spanning scalability, reliability, API design, and high availability for Tier-0 services.
• Expert-level coding in Go with hands-on experience in gRPC/microservices, AWS, and Kubernetes.
• Experience in identity, KYC, fraud infrastructure, vendor orchestration, or payments domains.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and technical direction for Coinbase's IDV platform.
• Lead platform consolidation by migrating to a single platform and retiring legacy rules.
• Design and build vendor-agnostic orchestration with real-time routing and failover.
• Scale the platform for new products, regions, and verification modalities with self-serve configuration.
• Drive cross-team technical strategy at Staff level across multiple pods.
