Job summary

Wayve is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer in Sunnyvale to lead the technical direction of a learned emergency trajectory model for high-consequence maneuvers. You’ll drive problem definition, modelling, evaluation, integration, and deployment evidence across AV Core and partners.

The role emphasizes cross-team leadership, safety-centric design, and collaboration with simulation, safety, and product engineering. This is a full-time hybrid position in Sunnyvale with a strong equity package.

Qualifications

• Track record of staff-level technical leadership from research to production deployment.
• Deep expertise developing learned trajectory-generation or policy models for embodied systems.
• Hands-on experience with behaviour cloning or reinforcement learning.
• Strong ML engineering skills in Python and PyTorch with reproducible training/evaluation pipelines.
• Exceptional technical judgement and communication for safety-relevant trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy and roadmap for the emergency trajectory model, including scope and acceptance criteria.
• Design and train trajectory-generating policies using suitable methods (behaviour cloning, RL, etc.).
• Build a data strategy for rare emergency cases using fleet data, simulation, and augmentation.
• Create rigorous open-loop and closed-loop evaluations for safety metrics and regressions.
• Lead integration into the shared driving stack and mentor cross-team collaboration.
