Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical development of a mobile robot product line from concept through production, including hardware design, manufacturing readiness, and sustaining improvements.

This role partners with contract manufacturers and cross-functional teams to scale reliable robotic platforms and drive quality, cost, and performance across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years in mechanical engineering with robotics or electromechanical systems.
• Strong CAD skills with SolidWorks; experience with PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience supporting contract manufacturers and conducting DFM reviews.
• Hands-on experience designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
• Understanding of GD&T and manufacturing methods (sheet metal, machining, molding).
• Excellent cross-functional communication and travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as mechanical engineering lead for a mobile robot product line from concept to end-of-life.
• Design and develop mechanical assemblies including frames and drive systems.
• Create 3D models, drawings, and BOMs in SolidWorks or equivalent.
• Apply DFM/DFA to optimize for high-volume contract manufacturing.
• Interface with contract manufacturers; support production builds and RCCA.
• Lead design reviews, ECNs, and PLM documentation updates.
• Design assembly jigs and tooling to improve quality and throughput.
• Support PPAP and FAI; travel up to 25% as needed.
