Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer for the Mobile Robotics Engineering team within Core Hardware Engineering. You will design, develop, and validate mechanical systems powering autonomous mobile robots, owning subsystems from concept to production.

You will collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, perform FEA and tolerance analysis, and drive manufacturing optimization while mentoring junior engineers. Up to 50% travel required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years mechanical design experience with mobile robots or similar electromechanical systems.
• Experience in deep freeze/condensing environments and DFMA manufacturing.
• Strong experience with SolidWorks, GD&T, BOM/PLM, and 3D CAD.
• Hands-on prototyping, test plans, and design iteration from tests.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of mobile robot mechanical systems (chassis, drivetrains, suspension).
• Select motors, gearboxes, bearings, wheels; analyze torque and lifecycle.
• Develop mechanisms meeting performance, reliability, manufacturability targets.
• Perform FEA, kinematics, tolerance analysis; validate with tests.
• Drive DFMA with manufacturing partners to optimize cost and quality.
• Collaborate across electrical, firmware, software, and systems teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support design reviews and field validation.
• Travel up to 50% for development, integration, testing, and deployments.
