Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer for its Mobile Robotics Engineering team. You will own critical mechanical subsystems for autonomous mobile robots, from concept through production, collaborating with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
8+ years of mechanical design experience, incl. 3+ years mobile robots/automation systems.
Experience with deep freeze or demanding environments is a plus.
Strong skills in SolidWorks, GD&T, and manufacturing process knowledge.
Experience with DFx (DFM/DFA) and design for reliability.

Responsibilities

Lead design and development of mobile robot mechanical systems (chassis, drivetrains, suspension, actuators).
Select motors, gearboxes, bearings, wheels, and related components; perform torque/speed/durability analyses.
Conduct FEA, kinematic studies, tolerance stackups and validation testing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs into full robotic systems.
Mentor junior engineers and support design reviews and field validation.
Travel up to 50% to support development and deployments.
