Job summary

Intertek USA is seeking a Staff Engineer in Kentwood, Michigan to join our Transportation Technologies team. This role focuses on providing technical leadership, reviewing test procedures, and guiding training programs for a diverse range of automotive certification activities.

The successful candidate will oversee standards interpretation, drive improvements in test methods, and mentor junior staff while collaborating across product lines to ensure compliance with FMVSS, ANSI, SAE, and other

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• 6+ years of independent engineering decision-making experience.
• Advanced experience with FMVSS, ANSI, SAE, ASTM, IEC and other international standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide local management with technical assessment of engineering skills and performance levels.
• Assess training of the technical staff and develop new training programs.
• Provide ongoing support on technical issues, test procedures, and standards interpretations.
• Provide expertise in multiple product categories.
• Research new standards, technologies, and trends in standards.
• Develop and communicate test procedures.
• Support accreditation activities including audit follow-up and corrective actions.
• Design new test fixtures and report shells.
• Identify, document, and recommend engineering judgments within policy guidelines.
• Prepare capital expenditure requests and manage capital projects.
• Mentor less senior technical staff.
