Job summary

Gusto is building a PEO Growth team and seeks a Staff Engineer to own the onboarding journey from discovery to setup. You will influence cross-team design, ensure high quality in a regulated domain, and leverage AI tools to improve the onboarding experience.

You will work across our PEO Growth pod, partnering with product, design, and other engineering teams to shape the end-to-end customer journey and drive measurable growth in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Full-stack experience with server-side and frontend; Rails and React/TypeScript preferred.
• Demonstrated AI fluency in engineering work.
• Ability to own ambiguous business needs and ship.
• Strong collaboration across teams and influence.

Responsibilities

• Own the PEO Onboarding experience end to end.
• Set technical direction and design durable abstractions.
• Build in a regulated domain with emphasis on quality.
• Collaborate across app teams and manage ownership seams.
• Use AI as a normal part of work and guide onboarding with AI tools.
