Job summary

Gusto is hiring a Staff Engineer for PEO Growth to own the end-to-end onboarding journey for a new co-employer product. You will shape the technical direction, work across teams, and apply AI tooling to streamline the experience.

The role requires strong full-stack skills, ownership in ambiguity, and a track record of shipping customer-facing surfaces at scale. Based in a fast-moving environment with hybrid office expectations, you’ll help ensure quality and accuracy in a regulated domain while

Qualifications

Demonstrated AI tooling experience and comfort with AI in day-to-day engineering work.
Ability to take fuzzy business needs and shape them into buildable solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Own the PEO Onboarding experience end to end and measure success.
Set technical direction and translate bets into designs and durable abstractions.
Build in a regulated domain where quality and accuracy are critical.
Partner with other app teams to create a coherent journey across domains.
Use AI as a normal part of work and integrate AI-guided onboarding support.
Instrument the funnel, define success metrics, and run experiments to improve onboarding.
Raise engineering bar with reviews, testing strategy, and observability.
