Job summary

FinOps Weekly is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead cloud cost optimization, budgeting, forecasting, and capacity planning within the FinOps and Cloud Optimization team. You will partner with engineering, business, and finance to improve spend visibility and governance, while guiding technical execution across UI, microservices, and Kubernetes deployments.

The role requires strong leadership, cloud platform knowledge (AWS/Azure/GCP), and experience with Python, Django, gRPC, Kafka and Spark.

Qualifications

  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost savings, and reporting across multiple tools.
  • Strong understanding of cloud cost models, pricing, and spend governance.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Kubernetes deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cloud cost optimization and capacity planning initiatives across orgs.
  • Build automation and process optimization to improve savings and spend reporting.
  • Gather budget requirements and maintain budget reporting; forecast cloud costs.
  • Define FinOps KPIs for IT leadership and collaborate with finance controls.
  • Support economic unit with business metrics to manage cloud expenses.
  • Mentor engineers on architecture, design, and implementation across stack.

# Staff Engineer – FinOpsUnited StatesFinOps100k – 150k29/07/2026Full-timeOnsiteFavoriteAccess Job## Job Description# Staff Engineer – FinOpsEngineering & Technology## About the Role This position sits within the Capacity and Workload Management organization on the FinOps and Cloud Optimization team. It focuses on leading FinOps engineering work that supports cloud cost optimization, budgeting, forecasting, and capacity planning.The role partners with business leaders, engineers, partner teams, and financial controls stakeholders to improve spend visibility, governance, and reporting. It also requires strong technical leadership across the stack, including full-stack web applications, microservices, backend integration, and Kubernetes-based deployments.The ideal candidate is expected to take ownership of major initiatives, work across teams as needed, and help guide both technical execution and FinOps strategy.## Key Responsibilities – Lead engineering initiatives for cloud cost optimization and capacity planning. – Build and implement automation and process optimization strategies. – Help shape approaches that improve savings, spend reporting, governance, and process efficiency. – Partner with business and engineering stakeholders to gather budget requirements and maintain budget reporting. – Forecast cloud costs and support related planning activities. – Communicate FinOps updates and priorities to stakeholders, including senior leadership. – Define FinOps KPIs for IT executives and collaborate with Controllers and Tech Financials Controls. – Support development of the economic unit using business metrics to manage cloud operating expenses. – Provide technical leadership across UI, microservices, and backend layers. – Mentor senior and junior engineers on architecture, design, and implementation. – Align technical implementations with partner teams and stakeholders. – Support web application deployments in Kubernetes environments and integration with cloud and on-premises systems.## Required Skills – Strong understanding of cloud services, cloud architectures, pricing models, and billing structures. – Ability to analyze cloud cost trends and anomalies and use data-driven insights to support decisions. – Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure. – Ability to work across technology teams to drive cost optimization discussions. – Experience collaborating with application teams to improve performance and cost within cloud services. – Experience designing and developing microservices using Python, Django, gRPC with protocol buffers, Kafka, and Apache Spark. – Deep understanding of API and event-driven architectures. – 5+ years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost savings, and reporting using various tools. – 4+ years of experience with open-source frameworks and cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, and GCP. – 3+ years of experience in cloud architecture and design, including cost optimization, capacity planning, pricing, and performance tuning. – 2+ years of professional software development and/or solutions engineering experience with technologies such as Java, TypeScript, ReactJS, BootstrapJS, Python, Golang, Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform. – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education/work experience.## Preferred Skills – 8+ years of experience working on FinOps projects. – Understanding of FinOps concepts.## Cloud Platforms & Technologies### Cloud Providers – AWS – Azure – GCP### Programming Languages – Python – Java – TypeScript – Golang### Web & Application Frameworks – Django – ReactJS – BootstrapJS### Data, Messaging & Analytics – gRPC – Protocol buffers – Kafka – Apache Spark### Containers & Infrastructure – Docker – Kubernetes (k8s) – Terraform### Architecture & Integration – Microservices – API architectures – Event-driven architectures### Cloud Concepts – Cloud services – Cloud architectures – Pricing models – Billing structures## FinOps Responsibilities – Lead cloud cost optimization and capacity planning discussions across organizations. – Develop strategies to improve savings, spend reporting, governance, and process improvement. – Gather budget requirements, maintain budget reports, and forecast cloud costs using multiple tools. – Define FinOps KPIs for IT executives. – Work with Controllers and Tech Financials Controls on FinOps communications and reporting. – Support the economic unit using business metrics to manage cloud operating expenses. – Analyze cost trends and anomalies to identify improvement opportunities. – Partner with application teams to improve performance and cost across cloud services.## Compensation – Annual salary range: $110,000–$230,000## Benefits – Personalized development programs – Mentorship – Certification assistance – Flexibility – Competitive pay and benefits## Why You Might Be Interested This role combines FinOps, cloud optimization, and technical leadership in one position.
