FinOps Weekly is seeking a hybrid Lead Azure FinOps Analyst to turn cloud spend data into clear insights that drive cost efficiency and forecasting. You will collaborate with Engineering, Security, Finance, and Architecture to optimize commitments, discounts, and consumption patterns across a large Azure environment.

The role emphasizes AI-enabled FinOps, dashboards, KPI tracking, and executive reporting to reduce waste and improve spend visibility for multi‑digit spend levels.

Qualifications

  • Experience with large Azure deployments in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of FinOps and cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience using Azure cost management, billing, and governance features.
  • Deep knowledge of Azure cost drivers: compute, storage, networking, reservations.
  • Advanced SQL for analyzing large datasets and trends.
  • Experience creating dashboards in Power BI.
  • Experience with APIs, scripting, or automation tools.

The position exists to turn cloud spend data into clear insights that improve cost efficiency, forecasting, and decision making.You will work across Engineering, Information Security, Finance, Architecture, and Cloud Platform teams to help optimize commitments, discounts, and consumption patterns. The role combines cloud engineering, data analytics, finance, automation, and AI to support enterprise-wide cost optimization.The work has direct business impact, including improved spend visibility, reduced waste, and better reporting across more than nine figures of annual cloud spend. Qualified candidates must live within 180 miles of Bloomington, IL; Richardson, TX; Dunwoody, GA; or Tempe, AZ.Campaigns & Elections## Key Responsibilities– Analyze Azure spend to identify cost drivers, trends, forecasts, and anomalies. – Lead AI for FinOps initiatives, including anomaly detection, optimization recommendations, natural-language insights, executive reporting automation, and decision-support solutions. – Partner with cloud platform teams to improve Azure commitments, reservation strategies, savings opportunities, and consumption alignment. – Identify idle, orphaned, overprovisioned, and misconfigured resources, then quantify the value of optimization opportunities. – Build executive dashboards, forecasting models, KPIs, and self-service reporting. – Work closely with engineering, architecture, finance, data, and cloud governance stakeholders. – Translate technical cloud usage patterns into financial narratives and actionable business recommendations. – Support a culture of continuous cost optimization, accountability, and operational excellence.## Required Skills– Strong experience with Microsoft Azure in large-scale enterprise environments. – Experience using Azure native cost management, billing, and governance capabilities. – Understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization strategies. – Strong knowledge of Azure cost drivers, including compute, storage, networking, commitments and reservations, and utilization patterns. – Advanced SQL skills and experience analyzing large datasets. – Experience creating dashboards and reports in Power BI. – Experience with APIs, scripting, or automation technologies such as Python, SQL, infrastructure tooling, or workflow orchestration platforms. – Strong analytical, conceptual thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. – Ability to explain technical concepts to both engineering and business audiences. – Curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to challenge conventional thinking. – Comfort with experimentation and learning from failure.## Preferred Skills– FinOps Certified Practitioner/Engineer/AI Value. – Microsoft Azure cloud certifications. – Experience building AI-enabled analytics or automation solutions. – Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), AI platforms, prompt engineering, or AI governance concepts. – Experience working automated decision support. – Convert cloud usage data into financial insights for business leaders. – Promote cost accountability and ongoing optimization.## Benefits– Base salary range: $107,000–$142,000, with the top end reserved for candidates with significant relevant experience. – Annual incentive pay up to 15% of base salary. – Compensation is based on a standard 38:45-hour work
