Job summary

ModMed is seeking a strategic and technical Staff Engineer, Database Platform to lead our data infrastructure engineering and operations. Reporting to the Sr Manager, Database Platform and Architecture, you will ensure the high availability, performance, and security of our mission-critical SQL and NoSQL systems and Streaming Services.

You will own the end-to-end database lifecycle, championing "database-as-code" methodologies to remove developer friction while strictly enforcing reliability

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
• 10+ years in database administration/engineering or SRE.
• Experience automating provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management with IaC.
• Deep experience with SQL and NoSQL databases at scale.
• Experience in public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with CI/CD and automated schema migrations.
• Knowledge of HA, DR, security best practices, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Kafka streaming platforms.

Responsibilities

• Leadership: Define the platform's architectural roadmap, and act as the primary stakeholder for database reliability.
• Platform Engineering: Oversee automated provisioning and scaling for SQL and NoSQL databases, driving IaC and self-service tooling.
• Operations & Performance: Establish SLOs/SLIs, implement observability tools, and escalate complex incidents.
• Schema Management: Treat schema changes as code with automated migrations in CI/CD and zero-downtime deployments.
• Security & DR: Enforce RBAC, encryption, and own Backup and Disaster Recovery strategy.
