Job summary

Modernizing Medicine, Inc. seeks a Staff Engineer, Database Platform to lead data infrastructure and operations. You’ll own end-to-end database lifecycle, champion database-as-code, and ensure high availability, security, and performance of SQL and NoSQL systems and streaming services.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Database Platform and Architecture, you will define architectural roadmaps, guide IaC adoption, and enforce reliability standards across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS/IT/Systems Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in database administration, engineering, or SRE.
• Experience automating provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle via IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Deep expertise with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra).
• Experience in public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of automated schema migrations (Flyway, Liquibase) and zero-downtime deployments.
• Strong HA/DR, encryption, RBAC, and performance tuning knowledge.
• Familiarity with Kafka or streaming platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define the platform architectural roadmap and database reliability ownership.
• Oversee automated provisioning, scaling, and IaC tooling adoption.
• Set SLOs/SLIs, implement observability and proactive incident response.
• Integrate automated migrations (Flyway/Liquibase) into CI/CD with zero-downtime deployments.
• Enforce RBAC, encryption, and comprehensive backup and DR strategies.
