Job summary

ModMed is seeking a strategic and technical Staff Engineer, Database Platform to lead data infrastructure engineering and operations. You will ensure high availability, performance, and security of SQL and NoSQL systems and Streaming Services, owning the database lifecycle and enforcing reliability through database-as-code.

You will drive architectural roadmaps, automation, and CI/CD integration, while maintaining rigorous security practices and DR plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Systems engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in database administration, database engineering, or SRE.
• Experience leading automated database provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management with IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Deep expertise with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra) at scale.
• Experience operating in public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• CI/CD pipelines and automated schema migrations (Flyway, Liquibase).
• HA, DR strategies, security best practices (RBAC, encryption).
• Familiarity with streaming platforms such as Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Define the platform's architectural roadmap and act as the primary stakeholder for database reliability.
• Oversee automated provisioning and scaling for SQL and NoSQL databases with IaC and self-service tooling.
• Establish SLOs/SLIs, implement observability tools, and manage complex incidents.
• Integrate automated migrations (Flyway, Liquibase) into CI/CD with zero-downtime deployments.
• Enforce RBAC, encryption, and own backup and disaster recovery strategy.
