Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape and scale the engineering platforms that build, test, integrate, validate, and deliver embedded software for software‑defined vehicles. You will lead a major capability across multiple teams, aligning software, tooling, infrastructure, test, and release activities into a coherent system.

The role is hands‑on, balancing architecture with practical leadership, and may align to one or more specialization areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a computer/engineering field or equivalent.
• 15+ years of software development, integration, and validation experience.
• Deep understanding of embedded and real‑time software architecture and safety‑critical products.
• Proven success leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Strong problem solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Production experience with engineering tools and systems; proficient in Python and at least one more language.

Responsibilities

• Define target-state architecture and roadmaps for the assigned capability.
• Lead architecture reviews and cross‑functional alignment.
• Identify bottlenecks and systemic delays in delivery pipelines.
• Deliver production‑quality software, automation, and platform components.
• Create reusable patterns and standards to speed product teams and suppliers.
• Coach senior engineers and grow technical leadership across the org.
• Communicate risks and recommendations to senior leadership.
