Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape and scale embedded software platforms for software-defined vehicles. You will lead cross-team efforts, translate architecture into reusable automation, and drive reliability, quality, and developer productivity across multiple teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on technical leadership, defining roadmaps, and partnering with hardware, validation, cloud, and program teams to deliver scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 15+ years of software development/engineering experience.
• Deep understanding of embedded and real-time software architecture.
• Experience leading large technical initiatives across teams.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one additional language used in software/engineering tooling.
• Experience with Linux, containers, CI/CD, and cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, MISRA, AUTOSAR or related practices.
• Ability to translate platform architecture into reusable automation and standards.

Responsibilities

• Define target-state architecture and roadmaps for the assigned capability.
• Lead architecture reviews and cross-functional alignment.
• Identify bottlenecks and systemic delays in pipelines and delivery.
• Deliver production-quality software, automation, and platform components.
• Create standards and reusable patterns to simplify the product path for teams.
• Establish clear ownership and operational criteria for the platform.
• Measure improvements using data and engineer productivity metrics.
• Coach engineers and grow technical leadership across the org.
