Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape and scale the engineering platforms that deliver embedded software for software-defined vehicles. This hands-on leader will turn complex problems into durable architecture and practical standards.

The role leads cross-team efforts, aligns stakeholders, and drives reliability, quality, and developer productivity across embedded, cloud, and test environments. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar field.
• Typically 15+ years of software development, integration, deployment, or validation experience.
• Deep understanding of embedded and real-time software architecture and safety-critical products.
• Proven track record leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Proficiency with Linux, Python, and engineering tooling.

Responsibilities

• Define target-state architecture, roadmaps, and priorities for the assigned capability.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical working sessions, and cross-functional alignment.
• Identify bottlenecks and systemic delays to improve delivery speed and quality.
• Deliver production-quality software, automation, and platform components.
• Create reusable patterns and standards for product teams and suppliers.
